The Arlington Heights Imagination Club started out as an after school club that met for one hour, every Tuesday and Thursday, doing classroom challenges, personal and partner projects, and stations that activated curiosity and creativity in each student. We now meet for a two hour block during school hours to quench our creative thirsts. No matter the format, my students have enjoyed having some time each week dedicated to using our imaginations and being creative. Every child in the world deserves the opportunity to dream big and bring their creations to life!

I’m a 5th grade teacher from Arlington Heights, Illinois who has been teaching for 15 years. I recently won the 2014 ICE Educator of the Year Award and will publish my first book in early 2015. My areas of focus are empowering students to lead their learning, effectively integrating EdTech into the curriculum, and providing students opportunities to pursue their personal interests through Passion Time. We focus on 21st Century skills in our classroom, especially creativity, problem-solving, reflection, & collaboration. On a personal note, I love spending every possible moment with my extended family, and never miss a Cubs or Blackhawks game!
Fun facts: 1) I love to travel so much (esp. internationally)! I’ve been to China, Finland, Sweden, England, France, Monaco, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji & more. 2) I spend my Monday evenings cooking for around 100 people at a local soup kitchen.
