The ‘Caine’s Arcade’ Cardboard Challenge
This fall, 10,000 elementary and middle school-aged youth across Los Angeles will start their 2013 school year with the Caine’s Arcade Cardboard Challenge. Coinciding with our Global Cardboard Challenge (which seeks to engage 1 million participant in 70 countries in creative play), the Caine’s Arcade Cardboard Challenge invites children all over the Southland to design and build games and arcades out of cardboard, recycled materials and imagination; then on October 5th, commemorating the flash mob that came out to make Caine’s day, community members will come out and play.
On this “Day of Play,” children will operate their arcades and raise money to support various local causes, practicing the value of social entrepreneurship. And adults will learn the simple things they can do to foster a child’s creativity. {Read more…}
The Future We Envision for Education in Los Angeles in 2050
(From Caine’s Arcade Challenge – LA2050 submission)
“In 2050, creativity will be a core social value and a critical skill fostered and developed in every school and community. Creativity will be as fundamental to the education of our children as literacy, and schools will be designed accordingly. In 2050, we will have a thriving network of “Imagination Chapters” throughout LA County, and every school and community center will have devoted space for children to discover their passions and practice building the things they imagine. Angelenos – young and old – will face the challenges of our city with optimism, invention and creativity.”
