THE MUSIC GUY

I've been singing, playing guitar, and writing songs for longer than I care to remember. First, because I'm embarrassed to not be a lot better than I am; second, because it feels funny to realize that you've been playing guitar longer than some other players have been alive!
NOT FOR SALE and THE NEXT NEW THING were a couple of self-recorded and -promoted CD efforts I did in 2001 and mercifully erased from the minds of men. Here are a some cuts that weren't too embarrassing—made the cut, so to speak:
- Little Boxes - I modified Malvina Reynolds's wonderful lyrics to apply to a local Blue Diamond, Nev. situation.
- Blue Diamond Amblin' Blues
- Milky Way
- Wanting You
- Music In My Pocket
- Sedona Skies
WALDENSONGS
These were recorded live at Walden's Coffee House in Reno on various "open mic" Saturday nights in 2004-2005.
- Shove Another Shillelagh Up Your Nose
- It's Scimé (1)
- Over The Canyon (1)
- Dance? (1)
- Time Has Made Us Strangers
- Trick of Light
- Salooney Tune
(1) Added March 3, 2005.
THE LAST HULLABALOO
Although Salooney Tunes disbanded in 1987, the group—which consisted of Barry Canter (bass, vocals), Freddy Antonini (guitar, vocals), Mark Thomas (drums) and myself (guitar, vocals)—remains a favorite of mine; as luck would have it, a recording was made of the band's last-ever performance on May 1, 1987:
- Suite: Judy Blue Eyes
- It Doesn't Matter
- Feel A Whole Lot Better
- Southern Man
- Carrie Ann
- Small Talk I
- Southern Cross
- Small Talk II
- I've Got A Line On You
- Small Talk III
- Dead Flowers - If only I'd not made that flub during the 2nd verse, it could have been . . . I don't know, a hit?
- Freeze that man!
- Please Please Me
- Turn The Page
- Big Ol' Jet Airliner
. . . and then the tape ran out. Thanks for three years of memories and great music, guys!
GUITAR FEST 2000
In 2000 I attended a one-week guitar "camp." It was amazing, wonderful, fulfilling . . . fill in your own adjective. I took some photos and stuff like that.

JOURNALISM & PRETENSION
In 1994 I wrote a paper for a graduate class in Ethics & Policy Studies. In that paper I coined the term cyberville, which has since become synonymous with the concept of "online community." Since then, it's been cited hundreds of times.
I also began writing my masters thesis on anonymity and pseudonomy on the Internet. Although I failed to finish it (or to get the MA), my notes and a BBS on which you can discuss issues of anonymity and privacy on-line can be found here.
If you're interested in Red Rock Canyon, you can find information and discuss it here at redrock.org. On the site you can find (if you're interested) a history of Blue Diamond, NV, which is where I lived from 1980 to 2003.
A couple of years ago I was interviewed for an edition of "Marketplace" on the subject of fine dining in Las Vegas. It aired on NPR not too long ago. Among other things, I was the then-restaurant writer for What's On Magazine. Here I am, on the segment NPR called: "Sin City Buffet."
A few of my reviews as well as other stories (in .PDF format) can be found at ClipsVault:
Oh, and did I mention that Jon Stewart has been my media hero ever since his Crossfire appearance on CNN last year? Not to mention a little something about l'Affaire Jeff Gannon, the bogus White House press correspondent, who turned out to be anything but. Thanks again, Jon.
Finally, everyone is invited to visit my political blog, Og's Blog. It hasn't been updated in a while, but what's there is—I think—pretty cool.
Everybody play . . . "What's The Movie?"
Maybe you've aready received this neat Excel© spreadsheet that has screenshots from famous movies with the faces erased. You're asked to guess who the actors are and are scored on the answers. It's a hoot, but you'll have to click the picture to download the file and have access to a machine (Mac or PC) that has Excel© on it for it to run.

MILLENIAL JOLKS
- Bogus Time Magazine "Election 2000" cover - NOTE TO SELF: Could also apply to Election 2004.
- This link will take you to the arguably amusing "Millennial Jolks."
- Here's the famous "Titanic" newspaper headline from TheOnion.com
- The tobacco industry tells us it's never advertised to children. Never! I guess they're telling the truth: how, after all, could one ever argue with this?
- Here's something for my conservative friends who are upset that the "liberal media" made such a stink about Dick Cheny's comment on the floor of the Senate last year. In some ways, The word actually has historic and cultural meaning. Here's the "F_word discussion" that ran on NPR.

LEISURE TIME
- In April 2000 I drove my just-acquired 1992 Lexus SC300 to Santa Barbara, where I spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend at my favorite B&B, The Old Yacht Club Inn.
- In September 2002, I drove from Vegas, up along Hwy. 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) through Big Sur, to San Francisco, then on to Reno and Mendocino, then Napa and Yosemite.
